The Canadian Major William Barker flew for 2 weeks this Snipe (E8102) and on 27th October 1918 he faced a flight of fifteen Fokker D.VIIs from Jagdgruppe 12. He entered in combat alone, shot down 3 D.VIIs, was badly injuried but even so he could manage to land inside Allied lines and was assisted by ground troops. His wrecked Snipe was recovered from the battlefield and is preserved at the Canadian War Museum. Major Barker received the “Victoria Cross” medal – the highest award of the British honours system.
